Image
Designers often refer to white space as negative space. The term arises from graphic design  where printing processes generally use white paper. White space is not 'blank' space — it is an important element of design which enables the objects in it to exist. The balance between positive (non-white) and negative (white) spaces is something we will explore this semester.
